Pinnacol Assurance, Colorado’s leading workers’ compensation insurer, welcomes Gabriel Lockhart, M.D., M.B.A., as its new Sr. Medical Director. Dr. Lockhart’s extensive background in clinical leadership, quality improvement and equitable patient care will be instrumental in advancing Pinnacol’s commitment to providing best-in-class, compassionate medical treatment for Coloradans injured on the job.
Dr. Lockhart joins Pinnacol after a distinguished career that includes serving as medical director of the ICU and quality improvement chairman at Saint Joseph Hospital. He is a board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician with an MBA from the Wharton School. His leadership at Saint Joseph Hospital resulted in significant improvements in patient outcomes, including reducing mortality rates and hospital-acquired infections. Additionally, he was recently elected president of medical staff at National Jewish Health and named a Top Doctor in 2025 by 5280 Magazine.
Beyond his hospital-based work, Dr. Lockhart has demonstrated a deep commitment to public health and equitable care. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Uptown Community Health Center and advised the governor of Colorado on pandemic strategies and vaccine equity.
