Leading health and wellbeing company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has committed more than $1.7 million in strategic investments to support housing stability and workforce development, reduce disparities, and expand access to maternal and behavioral healthcare services across Illinois. In partnering with leading community organizations who have a keen understanding of their neighbors’ needs, Humana is further addressing its commitment to address health-related social needs and advance priorities outlined by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS).

“Our goal is to ensure that every Illinoisan has the resources they need to achieve their best health, and we can’t do that alone,” said Samantha Olds Frey, President, Humana – Illinois. “Success requires collaboration, and we are grateful to work together with HFS and our non-profit partners to build healthy communities across the state.”

This investment builds on previous grants aimed at addressing urgent needs such as food and housing instability, bringing Humana’s total commitment to more than $3 million. 2026 grant recipients include:

  1. Brightpoint: Schubert Family Wellness Center + Behavioral Health & Wellness Consultant: Located at Schubert Elementary in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood, The Family Wellness Center embeds a school-based hub for behavioral health, family supports, and wraparound care, and other prevention-based services, meeting children and families where they are.
  2. Illinois Public Health Association: Supporting the Forward 4 Families Hub, which will build a statewide Community Health Worker (CHW) infrastructure focused on maternal and child health, embedding CHWs in high-disparity counties to navigate prenatal care, postpartum coverage, and social needs.
  3. Illinois Rural Health Association: Addresses the shortage of dentists in rural Illinois by funding five dental scholarships at Southern Illinois University. Scholarships are awarded to students who plan to practice in a rural, medically underserved area.
  4. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Behavioral Health Workforce Center: Grows licensed behavioral health workforce pipelines across central and southern Illinois and delivers Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) collaboratives that extend specialist support into rural communities.
  5. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Illinois: Expands behavioral health awareness, peer support, and school-based education statewide. NAMI’s youth programs are embedded in schools and communities and align with Illinois’ behavioral health priorities, offering reach across both rural and urban geographies.
  6. SIHF Healthcare: Leads Community Health Worker-driven chronic disease management in Metro East, aligning with Health Transformation Collaboratives

Humana’s latest investments further reflect the company’s expertise in delivering integrated healthcare to populations with complex health-related social needs, including food insecurity. In alignment with its Fully Integrated Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan in Illinois, Humana has provided grants to numerous organizations including Feeding Illinois and the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
