HRTech Interview with Bob Cahill, CEO, G-P (Globalization Partners)

HR Technology

HR Technology has evolved tremendously automating the process to a great extent. Is there any customizable software to keep the process ongoing?

1. Can you give us a brief of your career before Globalization Partners / G-P?

Well, for starters, I’m a born-and-raised Bostonian and started my career with EY (Ernst & Young) following the classic audit or trail CPA path. From there, and for the past 25 years or so, I’ve been a C-suite executive at several, Boston-based technology companies, always with a big international focus.

One of my early customers at the beginning of my career was a technology company, and I was more fascinated by it than all the different industries I was working across. I was specifically interested in the power of software and technology, and how it can expand your market and make operations more efficient.

2. How did you get your start in the field? Could you tell us more about your role at G-P?

When I met the founder of G-P, Nicole Sahin, I saw the amazing potential in the technology to enable companies to hire talent anywhere in the world in just a few days. I thought it was a unique and exciting concept and it was then that I found my passion for helping companies to start scaling internationally. It was just fascinating to me. So, I knew then that was where I wanted to take my career.

As CEO of G-P, I manage the day-to-day operations, focusing on both the business’s growth and financial metrics, as well as the company’s customer satisfaction ratings and employee engagement.

I still feel like it’s day one. We’ve come a long way, but I’m so excited about where we’re going because it really is just the beginning. We’ve got so much in store for our products, our platform, and the people that power them.

3. What’s your favorite part about working in the industry?

I really enjoy seeing how our technology enables organizations of all sizes around the world to hire talent and grow globally. I take great pride seeing the part that G-P plays in that process.

By helping companies and businesses leverage and scale technology, through benefits, payroll and more – helping them boil all-of-that down to a single point of solution – we see the relief instead of the pain that would typically come with readily expanding on a global basis.

Being a part of the solution to help businesses grow beyond the borders of where they are, and facilitating that process is one of my favorite parts about being in this industry.

4. Could you give a sneak peek into recent developments at G-P?

We evolved our brand. We’re in an environment where our category, customers and culture are all shifting rapidly, and it is important that our branding keeps up with and ideally, ahead of those changes. We created this category, and we continue to lead it, so it is important that our brand continues to reflect that leadership.  We know that there is boundless potential ahead and this new brand reflects our vision of the future.

Now, in terms of business, we’ve had some exciting things happening this year. From a people perspective, we’ve built a world-class leadership team with deep expertise. They’ve all positively disrupted industries and sectors and are deeply committed to our mission of enabling the everywhere workforce.

Earlier this year, we launched G-P Recruit to meet our customers’ needs and help them find and employ talent around the world. We also launched G-P Contractor to offer companies the chance to hire contractors in 187 countries while supporting the lifecycle of both short- and long-term projects.

Something we take great pride in is that we’ve been positioned as the industry leader by research firms NelsonHall and Everest Group in each of their respective EOR industry reports.

5. Tell us a bit about your culture. What makes G-P’s culture unique?

G-P is unique because we are a fully remote, global company. Here, we spend a lot of time building a culture of respect, inclusion and participation. It’s something I’ve strived for since I’ve been here and have strengthened that commitment since I took the CEO role and will continue to do so. We’re going to constantly invest and work on that – whether it’s through our values, benefits enhancements or our ways of remote working that set our employees up for success.

Our recently launched new branding reflects what we have built, but it also represents our future and embodies the story of how we unlock opportunity for everyone everywhere through our Global Employment Platform™.

6. In your opinion, what are the most exciting topics in HRTech right now? How do you keep up with the constantly changing landscape?

The desire and need for a unified platform is driving the evolution the Employer of Record (EOR) industry and the evolution of its technology. There’s a strong need for a solution that enables companies to hire new team members anywhere in the world quickly and compliantly while seamlessly meeting the needs of customers and those they serve, all while providing a positive employee experience. The next evolution in EOR will require analytics, AI, integration with a suite of HRIS and HRM solutions and an employee-first mindset.

As HR technology becomes increasingly integrated, we are going to see far more automation. Solutions will create efficiencies for HR professionals through automating workloads, while also improving the employee experience.

Emerging HR technology such as EOR platforms will create a new world of opportunity for companies and integrations with these platforms provide a seamless user experience for both the HR professional and the employees they serve, all while granting access to increasingly sophisticated data and automation capabilities.

7. G-P has launched the next generation of your Market Leading Global Employment Platform™. What can you share about the new features and enhancements?

The new version of our Global Employment Platform includes a new set of capabilities, features, and integrations that improve our users’ experience. Our platform makes it easy for companies to hire talent in over 180 countries,

The new version includes the first in-platform automated employment contractor generator so customers can create an employment contract that is compliant with local regulations within minutes. We also offer unique integrations with UKG, Greenhouse, and Hibob for a seamless and error-free data flow between the G-P Global Employment Platform and HCM, applicant tracking, payroll, and other systems.

We also added several enhancements to G-P Contractor, such as automated contracting approvals, paperless invoicing, and the ability to review, manage, and terminate contingent worker contracts on the G-P Global Employment Platform.

With these and other capabilities, we want to simplify the complex and help companies unlock access to new opportunities, so they can create a world that taps into the fullest of human potential.

8. The new remote work reality has changed the employee benefits landscape. What role does technology play in the rethinking of benefit packages?

Global mobility and flexibility are playing a big role in incentives becoming an ongoing journey. In this context, fully remote companies need to design more holistic benefit packages that will be subject to constant change and informed by data, but always centered around work-life balance and mental health.

As this shift takes place, technology will play an essential role in the individualization of employee benefits. SaaS platforms are turning employees into users who will be able to make customized and unique use of their perks. They will increasingly be able to log in, choose the benefit of their liking and enroll, while companies will gather this data, track incentive use, and update their packages.

9. What are G-P’s plans for expansion and growth? Where do you see it in the coming years?

There are several developments in the works that we can’t wait for people to see, with an emphasis on our products. Essentially, we’re going to accelerate our investment in technology and innovation to provide access to the entire global workforce. We’re always asking ourselves, “What can we do better with technology?”

Let me give you an example. Most workers today are salaried employees on a monthly paycheck and direct deposits. But that’s not really the only way people work now – it’s evolving. Think about contractors, gig workers and global mobility; there are so many new concepts that today’s workers are moving into, and we need to adjust to, and that’s why we added a contractor product to our Global Employment Platform™.

We’re going to be very focused on technology development with exceptional customer experience at the core, as we need to delight our customers with valuable, new innovative products.

10. What is the biggest piece of advice you could provide to company leaders about making HR a value within their organization?

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to listen to your employees. They are the people who keep your company running and help keep the ship afloat. So, creating a company culture where they know they are heard and appreciated will be one of the reasons you keep HR as a value and make your organization one that they want to work for.

How do you stay motivated? What are your key learnings from your career so far?

I stay motivated by constantly learning. That is also a key takeaway I have from my career. Knowing that no matter what level you’ve achieved, you can always continue to learn more and better your skills. Whether you’ve just started-out at a company, or you own one, never assume you’re done learning. Keeping your mind open and receptive will help you continue to improve both yourself and your company. I also like to set goals, and of course, reach them!

As for G-P, unlocking human potential out there and giving access to opportunity to all those people, is a wonderful mission. It’s something I feel excited and passionate about today. Think of all the talent spread around the world right now that hasn’t been discovered yet, because they’re just in far places; think of what they could achieve for future generations if they had access to opportunities.

I keep thinking about that as much as G-P thinks about breaking down barriers and helping our customers access that talent. In many ways, I’m almost more excited about this untapped human potential that’s out there, which we can connect with our product.
