Leading health and well-being company Humana Inc. announced that it has named Michelle O’Hara as Chief Human Resources Officer, effective January 1, 2025. O’Hara will oversee the enterprise talent strategy and people programs for Humana’s more than 63,000 employees. She brings a proven track record of transforming HR capabilities and enabling companies to effectively attract, recruit, develop and retain a talented and diverse workforce. O’Hara will report directly to Humana President and CEO Jim Rechtin.

“Humana’s people strategy is a core capability for our business that supports and empowers our workforce so they can successfully deliver on our mission to make it easier for the millions of people we serve to achieve their best health,” said Rechtin. “I am pleased to welcome Michelle as our new Chief Human Resources Officer and look forward to working closely with her to ensure Humana remains a top employer of choice and a great place to work.”

O’Hara succeeds Tim Huval, who had previously announced his intention to retire at the end of 2024 after a successful 12-year career at Humana.

O’Hara has more than 20 years of leadership experience in human resources, most recently serving as the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a Fortune 500 technology company. At SAIC, she led a people strategy that resulted in significant gains for workplace culture, talent acquisition, retention, and diversity, as the company went through rapid growth and change. Before SAIC, O’Hara was Head of Global Talent Acquisition at BearingPoint, a publicly traded management and technology consulting firm, where she redefined the talent acquisition function. Prior to that, she served in senior leadership roles at Perot Systems Corporation and Booz Allen Hamilton.

O’Hara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the College of William & Mary and serves on the board of directors for Atlantic Union Bankshares Corporation and for the HR Policy Association.
