Workforce AI startup vflok™ Inc. is improving schedule flexibility and eliminating unnecessary workflows for nursing teams, scaling its agentic AI platform across Wellstar Health System’s 11 hospitals after a successful pilot program. The innovative Swift™ AI Scheduling Copilot will be used by more than 8,000 nurses and additional non-clinical staff at the Georgia nonprofit health system.
In a six-month pilot at three Wellstar hospitals with nurses, nurse managers, and support staff, Swift reduced change management time-on-task by 86% for nurses and support staff and 96% for nurse managers. More than 98% of all users interacted with Swift via SMS text / chat, eliminating the need to login to the scheduling system and speeding unit onboarding. If an employee can text, they already know how to use Swift.
“Swift has shown a reduction in nurse manager burden, allowing nurse leaders to spend less time on administrative tasks associated with staffing/scheduling and more time focused on patient care and team support,” said Susan Thurman, VP Nursing Practice & Clinical Integration at Wellstar, adding “By enabling our nurses to spend more time caring for our patients and team members, we will further improve patient outcomes and team member job satisfaction. We’re excited to make Swift available to nursing teams across Wellstar.”
Swift combines Generative AI with advanced Machine Learning to improve schedule flexibility for front-line teams, reduce administrative burden for nurse managers, and help Central Staffing divisions optimize workforce deployment to reduce contract labor costs. Swift’s agentic AI manages 1:1 and group conversations between teams and managers and factors individual preferences, historical behavior, unit economics, rules, and real-time constraints to develop and change schedules. Its algorithms probabilistically determine which resources are more likely to fill shift vacancies faster and each transaction it executes — from coverage sourcing to communication to approvals and schedule system updating — is fully automated, eliminating the need for manual workarounds that nursing teams have traditionally used to save time (and frustration).
Swift plans to release more AI solutions in the coming months, including auto-balancing for nurse managers to reduce time-on task from (8-10) hours per month to just minutes and an optimization solution for Internal Contingency (‘Float’) teams.
