Five Ways That Data Can Tackle Today’s HR Challenges

New report highlights how a data-driven approach can help close the skills gap

HR Challenges

Employers should make greater use of data to solve their HR challenges. A new report from Questionmark, the online assessment provider, shows how gathering information on staff skills through tests and assessments can help employers make better decisions on training, recruitment and career development.

Businesses are increasingly gathering and analyzing data on their customers and their business processes. This is enabling them to operate more efficiently and market their products with greater precision. However, when it comes to managing their own workforce, executives fear that HR teams are too often failing to adopt a data-driven approach.1

The new Questionmark report, “A Data-Driven Approach to Closing the Skills Gap” identified five areas that could benefit from HR teams gathering and analyzing more data.

  1. Streamlining the recruitment process to improve talent acquisition
  2. Spotting exit trends to address retention challenges
  3. Getting more out of rewards to maximize remuneration packages, boost employee engagement and secure value for money
  4. Linking employee data to business metrics to identify early warning signs of potential operational issues or opportunities for improvement
  5. Identifying employee skill needs to highlight gaps, inform training programs and define talent acquisition strategies

Neil McGough, General Manager of Questionmark, said: “More and more areas of the business rely on data to function. Yet when it comes to their people, many organizations struggle to implement the appropriate analytics. Staff assessments give employers real and reliable information about the skills of their people. They can use this information to get a grip on the skills gap within their own workforce and put plans in place to address it.”
