Danielle Brown Joins Gusto as Chief People Officer

Gusto, the leading payroll, benefits and HR technology platform for small businesses in the U.S., announced today that Danielle Brown will join the company as chief people officer.

“Danielle is a radically candid thought partner and leader who has consistently built world-renowned cultures where people are empowered to do their best work. She has dedicated her career to creating workplaces where people can thrive and belong, and I’m excited to work with her as we scale Gusto in the coming years,” said Gusto Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Josh Reeves.

The appointment comes on the heels of Gusto’s incredible growth as it counts more than 1 percent of all employers in the U.S. as customers, and the company added more than 800 employees since 2012, with plans to hire hundreds more in the coming years.

As chief people officer, Brown will lead talent acquisition, talent development, employee experience, diversity and belonging, people operations and workplace environment initiatives at Gusto. She will also work to reinvent HR as an advocate for Gusto’s more than 60,000 small and medium-sized business customers across the U.S.

“I am excited to join Gusto, which many small business owners and entrepreneurs rely on as the one system to serve all their people and team needs. Few chief people officers ever have the opportunity to shape the future of work meaningfully, and I cannot wait to help Gusto serve the 60 million people employed by small businesses in the U.S.,” said Danielle Brown.

Brown most recently led employee relations, people operations governance and compliance and diversity, equity and inclusion strategy and programs at Google as vice president, employee engagement. She also served as Google’s chief diversity and inclusion officer.

Before joining Google in 2017, Brown was vice president and group chief human resources officer at Intel Corporation, where she oversaw business-facing HR for Intel’s manufacturing, sales and G&A functions and led executive talent management. Prior to that, she served as vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer and was also chief of staff to Intel’s chief executive officer.

Brown began her career as a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers and also spent nearly a decade in the biotechnology industry in sales and marketing roles.
